I am a sports journalist with a unique combination of reporting and mathematical skills. I have experience in data analysis, journalism and sports broadcasting. I graduated in June, 2019 from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, a second major in Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences, and a Political Science minor. After graduation, I was the sports intern at FiveThirtyEight, wrote freelance sports stories for The Palm Beach Post, and now I am working full-time as the sports reporter and editor at the Rio Grande Sun in Española, New Mexico.
Favorite feature stories:
Favorite analytical pieces:
2022 Basketball State Tournament Preview and Team Capsules
Hoops 2022 -- “The Essential, Must-Have Guide to Northern New Mexico Basketball”
Interactive feature package example: The Game: Northwestern Football's Quest to Win the Big Ten
Good stories are everywhere, especially in sports. The reason I want to pursue sports journalism is to continue to find and tell great stories. These are a few of my favorite examples.
I'm always striving to find ways to combine my math and journalism backgrounds, and I think the best way to tell a story is often by using data. It is difficult to strike the careful balance in using numbers in ways that everyone can understand. Here are some examples of my numbers-based writing:
Highlight reel from the 2018 Northwoods League season
Full broadcast of Game 1 of the 2019 NCAA Softball Super Regionals
